Warm Fall equals Warm Lake

November 7, 2016

We have an opportunity to go out on the weather forecasting limb.

Typically, lake effect snows are dependent on having open water on the Great Lakes, especially Erie. The fetch which climbs our hill and leaves tons on snow actually starts over the upper lakes. Winds crossing Lake Erie are the icing on the cake.

The storms which come after the lakes are frozen are more than welcomed but are not lake effect storms where we can get a foot of snow overnight.

So…

When the National Weather Service says Erie will see 125 to 155 inches of snow…

  1. We know that often Wilderness Lodge can get twice what the City of Erie has…
  2. Warm lakes equal more snow…

Our prediction is that there will be snow this winter…
